Udhampur, named after Raja Udham Singh, is the fourth largest city in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. The city skirted with lush green is located on the NH 1A if you are travelling from Jammu or Srinagar. Udhampur has made its place on the lap of Shiwalik Mountain at an altitude of 756 meters. The sub-tropical climate perks up the temperature to 40 degree during the summer, while the winter drops down close to zero. The city may not be ideal for enjoying exciting adventure activities, but the adjoining locations of Udhampur are really worth visiting for. Udhampur is only 49 Km from Patnitop, which is an exotic place for adventure activities. In Patnitop you enjoy the thrill of trekking over the uneven ridges and rocky topography to Billo Ki Powri or Sudh Mahadev temple. Paragliding is another most admirable adventure sport in that region. People who love camping can get the flavour of adventure camps and rock climbing in the region. The Mansar Lake and Suruinsar Lake on such high altitude will surely blow away your mind. If you want to enjoy the pleasing weather of Himalayan region then a short drive from Udhampur to Pancheri (40 Km) can be the best option. Vaishno Devi (42 Km), the sacred place for Hindus is also very close to Udhampur lies on NH 1A.
How to reach
Jammu Airport (36 Km) from Udhampur bridges the place with other prime locations in India through air route. However, people willing to come from Srinagar Airport (130 Km) can avail the taxi service to Udhampur.
Udhampur has a railway station which connects the Kashmiri land with Delhi, Ahmedabad, Indore and other cities of Northern India.
Regular bus and taxi service for Jammu, Srinagar and other cities of Jammu and Kashmir are available. Udhampur has a bus stop from where tourists can avail deluxe buses at affordable price. You need to take NH 1A, which exhibits unparallel beauty if you are travelling in car from Jammu and Srinagar.
